living in sin? [Jan. 15th, 2007|12:21 am]

[music |BEHEADED, Recounts of Disembodiment]

Well, it's official: Lisa and I are engage-ed :) After like 8 years, too much of which has been patiently spent apart on account of school and more school, I finally asked her if she would marry me. Actually, I think I just used the question as an excuse to give my girl a ring.. we've both known for quite some time that we'd be together always and we're not really in any hurry to have a formal wedding. Things don't feel any different, except maybe now we've noticed how many million commercials and tv shows involve weddings or engagements ..annoying! As for the proposal, there was no elaborate public display. We went out to dinner at our favorite restaurant and I totally surprised Lisa with the ring at the very end. Since she seemed a bit shocked and neither of us are into the spotlight thing, we retreated out of the restaurant to sit on the stone wall out front all alone together.. and the rest is history :)

I feel like I should take a moment to explain my conflicted feelings about engagement and marriage. I think that engagement, for the most part anyway, is a shallow concept. The idea that someone is not truly yours until you "reserve" them with a ring is just stupid. If someone makes you feel that way, then they are probably not the person for you. I feel like we've been engaged for many years now, and I never once felt any pressure to do this.. and that's why ultimately I decided to do it when I could. I guess I am old fashioned because I chose a diamond, and there is probably some kind of new-age, politically correct method of commencing spousal slavery, but I went for the classic method. And as for weddings, they're mostly for the mothers. So yeah, we don't have even a remote idea of "the date" yet, so don't ask! The only discussion so far has been of either eloping or an elaborate jaws themed ceremony (for the moms, of course), but in the meantime we're just too busy being happy and being ourselves.

And, oh yeah.. neither of us like the word fiance, it sounds pretentious. So you will probably never hear either of us use it. However, if I accidentally call her Beyonce, it should come in handy ;)

Tomorrow I begin my externship semester.. yay for no classes, but unfortunately I have to get up early and dress like a jerk. Also, I got a new guitar and it's incredible. That's all for now. Happy New Year!

..if you're a celebrity, stay away from private jets ..especially if you plan to pilot it yourself! don't make me write up a list.

plus, two things bother me about this incident:

1) because the guy was an athlete (a New York Yankee, to be precise) nobody even wonders if this had anything to do with terrorism, despite the fact that it is exactly one month after the anniversary of Sept. 11th.. and yeah, it probably has nothing to do with it, but let's not rule it out.

2) how the fuck did this guy manage to get a plane into manhattan, much less into a building? where was the airforce? the navy? or whoever has armed planes? asleep at the switch. do you really feel safe? even though someone died, this was like a drill ..and the military failed.

yeah, so i never use this thing anymore.. myspace is just so much better: a single page of "what i'm about," as if that's possible. and the best part? you can put a song on it to annoy the shit out of anyone who might look at it. *ch-ching* :) so if we're friends on livejournal, and your association with me is of any remotely redeeming value at all, you can send me a friend request on myspace at http://myspace.com/evilandrew.

anyway, i had a decent weekend. i used an old home remedy (beer) to fend off a cold i was developing. i went mountain biking on saturday and running on sunday. i'd be in better shape if i didn't enjoy so much of the aforementioned home remedy. i also sold off some of the lousy metal discs in my cd collection at armageddon shop in providence, turning them into a few great used discs they had. now it's sunday night, and instead of reading about tax, debtor/creditor, and trademarks, i am busy studying heineken. there's something wrong with me and i can't say i mind.

The Crack's emotional farewell to Nation... [Jul. 13th, 2006|01:07 pm]
[Current Location |working?]
[mood |boredbored]

DC people might like to see this nostalgic farewell from a recent update posted by the Cracknation Camp (Acumen, Dj?Acucrack, etc.):

5. GOODBYE NATION (A DC LOVE STORY, by Lord Pickles)

Thursday June 22 marked the end of an era for the boys of Cracknation, as did the coming weeks for many an aggressive music fan in the Washington DC area. June 22 was the last time that I would ever set foot inside the massive venue known as NATION, better known to me in the 90's as the CAPITAL BALLROOM. The venue hosted its last show (ugh, MSI!) recently, and the building is being destroyed to make room for a really important fucking parking structure for a really important new sports arena.

In the fall of 1995, Acumen Nation went on a fantastic voyage with Cubanate known as the Aggro Tech Tour. This was our first real foray into proper touring, and one of the greatest moments ever was our first appearance at the Capital Ballroom. The live room had not contained the massive stage it does now, but would house a temporary stage much closer to where the DJ booth now sits. The front room was for dancing only, and the events were purely industrial and gothic... we had some of our best moments in that room and began to think of DC as a second home, as the Cubanate show there brought us our highest merch sales ever (even beating Chicago!) not to mention tours with Chemlab/16Volt and Skrew... years later it became Nation, a bigger stage was built, and Alchemy began along with the friday night Buzz crew and their drum n bass / techno nights, not to mention much bigger bands and shows.

Acumen was left out of this new development, but over the past 2 years DJ? Acucrack began a 4-show run that allowed us to connect with the local drum n bass crowd, and culminated in that June 22 show with Front Line Assembly. We were rather bummed that night, having been bumped to doors with the intrusion of Conjure 1, but it was a special night nontheless. Our second hometown crowd was in attendance for the most part, toasts were made, shout outs galore, and a cybernetic tear was shed as we said goodbye to one of the greatest venues in Cracknation lore. Special thanks to Shaggy, the Alchemy crew, Amanda and the Buzz crew, and Jason Geisinger, not to mention the likes of Lee, the Ballerinis, Doug and Tanya, and all our DC friends (you know who you are!) we look forward to seeing every time we go east. Here's hoping we will find a new place to meet...

Ok.. MTV's Whylin' Out show: basically a competition of "how ghetto are you" ..stupid. And needless to say, nobody is more pathetic than the white kids on there. I swear I am becoming a nazi bent on the genocide of wiggers. No, I'm not bitter, just feeling observant and amused. I'm not saying I never liked any hiphop, because I most certainly did.. but I never acted like I was from the streets, y0. Seriously, the programming and advertising on MTV nowadays makes me feel insulted.. it's so materialistic and ghetto-glorifying. Disgusting. To the gas chamber with all these fools.

..this is the moment when all you self-righteous liberals disown me as a friend =)
